Work
Much of my work experience has been design and animation for kids intellectual properties, school clubs and other interest groups, but currently I'm looking for work in feature films or illustration. Right now I'm working part-time doing contract design and animation work for several companies, but looking for full-time work in the Bay Area. Contact me, if you're interested or know of an opening!
Bio
I'm an illustrator, animator and designer. I party in Adobe Photoshop for most of the day right now, although I also camp out for weeks at a time in Flash or Maya. Outside of my computer, I live in Mountain View with my amazing husband and evil cockatiel. I'm originally from Boston, but hey, isn't that true for everyone in the Bay Area? Other than animation and art, I get a huge kick out of fixing computers, fire juggling, mechanical pencils, lead type, folding improbable balloon animals, wood-turning,nerding about chocolate, welding, reading cognition research, and sculpting personable monsters.
Education
I first learned animation at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), in a pre-college program back in high school-- but I was seduced by science and spent the next four years earning a B.A. in psychology from Yale. Part of my undergraduate field research involved holding a video camera and running towards (and then rapidly away from) a large colony of rhesus macaques in Puerto Rico, and I once spent a whole summer organizing the feeding and pooping charts for a lab of more than fifty incontinent cottontop tamarins and marmosets....which was probably about when I realized that I prefer drawing and animating animal thoughts more than I like writing grants to film eye-tracking data.
So after I graduated, I spent a year working as tech support at the Yale School of Art, putting together computer labs and helping graphic designers and painters transition from rubber cement to Photoshop, and then applied to Vancouver Film school's Classical Animation and 3D Character Animation programs. Over a year and a half I squeezed out three films on about 4 hours of sleep...it was the best time in my life, and I've never looked back.
